POETRY PROJECT

Each year, The Red Room Company holds Australasia’s largest poetry writing competition called, Poetry Object. The competition targets years 3 - 10 students and provides teachers with a comprehensive resource to teach poetry and creative writing to a broad range of students, across different classroom contexts.

Students, teachers and schools compose poems in response to special talismanic objects in their lives. The poems are then shortlisted by our judge, Jill Jones and all submitted material is published online. There is a prize pool of over $10 000 for students, teachers and schools. Now in it’s sixth year, we’ve published over 7000 poems and connected over 250 school groups.

Based on previous feedback, teachers have taken our resource and taught it as a unit of study - which is quite effective given that it’s very neatly compartmentalised with a number of stages to move through.
