Ice-breakers and lessons on Describing People and the World of Books

Ms Cutajar has very generously submitted resources for two more lessons, together with the following description of how to use them in class: Lesson 1

This material includes ice-breaker activities and a Reading Log and some PowerPoint presentations. One of the PowerPoint presentations includes some tasks to introduce students to the world of books and to introduce the concept of a blurb. The PowerPoint about films and books may be used to elicit different vocabulary related to genre and to address the LO R7.4 (I can make informed assumptions about a book or other long works from its title and introductory material). This PowerPoint also addresses the writing of a book or film review and provides scaffolding to cater for students’ diverse readiness levels.

Lesson 2

Another PowerPoint about Describing People may be used to address the LO LS 7.14 (I can make use of language to compare and contrast) and to partially address the LO LAP 7.11 (I can narrate events/stories, describe persons/objects/scenes, and accurately express simple arguments for and against in writing) – by focusing specifically on the following:

  1. I can, with support, compare two persons, objects or scenes.

  2. I can compare 2 or more persons, objects or scenes using -er, -est, more and the most.

  3. I can compare and contrast 2 or more persons, objects or scenes using a variety of structures.

Get access to the folders with all of the resources linked above for Lesson 1 and Lesson 2.
